Crowsnest Pass Animal Control Bylaws
The Crowsnest Pass SPCA does NOT address any Animal Control issues. These are the responsibility of the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass and the Community Peace Officer who handles Bylaw enforcement.
Should you have an animal control problem, please contact the Municipal Office at 403.562.8833 with your concerns.
Should a dog be picked up by the Community Peace Officer for any reason the Peace Officer will deliver the animal to our facility for safe keeping and care until the owners are contacted.
The CNP SPCA will check for current tags/licenses, tattoos and any identifiers that will assist us in locating the owners to make them aware where their pet is and that it is being cared for and safe. We will also post a photo and details about the dog on our face book page/website and will pass the information along to the Municipal face book page to try to reach as great an audience as possible to get the animal back home where it belongs.
BEFORE you attempt to collect your pet from our facility you MUST contact the Municipal office to clear up any fines or fees levied by them under the Animal Control Bylaws and provide proof of ownership. There will be fines levied by the Municipality for dogs running at large, no current tags, etc.
The fee structure is on page 22 of this PDF link
These fees must be paid prior to you coming to the CNP SPCA to collect your dog. A receipt from the Municipality and your ID must be presented to the CNP SPCA before we will release your pet to you.
Please bring a collar/harness complete with current tag/license and leash or travel enclosure with you. We will not release an animal from our facility unless it is under control.
The CNP SPCA is required to advertise any animal turned into our facility for a period of 3 days should the animal NOT have any identifiers – i.e. current tag/license, name tag, readable tattoo.
If we find any identifiers we will keep the animal for 10 days in order to attempt to contact the owner(s).
Should no one claim the animal within the 3 or 10 day period applicable, this animal becomes the property and responsibility of the CNP SPCA. An assessment will be made and steps will be taken to prepare the animal for adoption under our policies and procedures. The animal will be checked by a veterinarian to determine its health and if needed the animal will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and dewormed.
