Surrender Procedure & Fees
We find that a cat or dog does definitely exhibit stress and anxiety in being dropped off at the CNP SPCA facility as a surrender. We prefer that families or individuals attempt to keep the dog or cat and let us help to advertise “Free to Good Home” on our face book page, website or in-house bulletin board to find a new home.
In order to surrender an animal, the CNP SPCA needs to assess that the owner has done his/her due diligence in trying to find a suitable new home for their companion. We are not here to take responsibility for your problem but we do want to help!
If a dog or cat does have a current home we will post the details of why it needs a new home on our in-house bulletin board, face book page and website – we prefer that the animal stay where it is for the time being.
We suggest owners put up notices in store windows, laundromats, gas stations and post office bulletin boards – advertise on local social media networks and local radio stations/newspapers.
We really need to see that the owners are taking the responsibility of trying to find their companion a new home rather than dropping them off at the SPCA hoping we will solve their problem.
If you are wanting to drop off an animal for surrender and are able to provide the proof that you have done your due diligence in trying to re-home this animal on your own (eg. Posters on bulletin boards with the date posted, confirmation of contacting the local radio and newspaper and social media posts or re-contacting the original source of the adoption – rescue or private) we will consider taking the animal into our facility.
Please be honest with us and let us know of any disturbing behavioral issues, health issues, age-related issues, training deficiencies and such so that we can accurately assess whether this animal can be rehabilitated and eventually re-homed or even if we are able to address its’ issues with any amount of success. If we feel we are not able to help this animal, we will do our best to refer you to other centres and facilities that may be able to help.
