Stray or Feral?
What's the difference?
BETWEEN A STRAY CAT AND A FERAL CAT?
Stray Cat
A “Stray Cat” is a domestic (household) cat that has been abandoned by its owner or possibly wandered away from its home for one reason or another. Depending on the length of time out on its own, the stray cat will exhibit varying degrees of wariness. A stray cat is NOT a feral cat. Strays can be re-introduced into another home – ferals cannot.
Feral Cat
A “Feral Cat” is a cat that is untamed, undomesticated and wild! You are not able to approach a feral or pick one up. If trapped, a feral will severely injure itself trying to get out of the trap. When you think of a feral cat think about a cougar – they are BOTH WILD ANIMALS! Feral cats are very elusive and not normally seen.
