In collaborating with the Lundbreck Landfill staff we were advised of a young mother cat and her kittens currently on the property. Hearing of their plight we offered to take them in if they were able to be trapped and contained. The staff at the Landfill facility were successful and Mabel and her 3 kittens arrived at our shelter on Friday, Sept 5. 2024.
Mabel, we estimate to be approximately 8 months old, is still nursing but the landfill staff feel she may already be in her next heat. Mother and kittens appear to be in good health for the most part. Cautious and shy right now Mom does accept some very quiet gentle affection while the kittens, as expected are very wary but in our absence, playing and enjoying their new found safe home.
Mabel and her family will be in quarantine for a period to determine any health or behavioral issues. Following this period, she and the kittens will be vet checked and the appropriate measures will be taken regarding vaccinations, deworming and eventual spay/neuter procedures for mom and kittens.
We are not sure of the gender of her family but will keep everyone updated as details come available.
Mabel is on the right - she is all black with a white spot on her chest and another white spot on her belly. The kitten pictured is the runt of the litter.
